Search Engine Friendly Pages
The purpose of building a website is to present information you want people to see. Unless you have visitors coming to your website, there is no point having one. Search engines like Google, MSN, Yahoo!, Altavista are the major source of getting traffic to websites. To be able to rank easily in search engines and obtain more visitors you have to design your website, search engine friendly.
Crawlers or robots are programs used by search engines to index websites. A list on their search results is displayed on pages when you do a search in a search box for certain keywords. Your main objective is to get your website listed on the first page. Crawlers or robots follow links to pages and reads the content and stores them in a data base, so when someone does a search it runs through the data base and pulls out every page that has that keyword or keyword-phrase on it and displays it on pages where you can find what you are looking for.
Things you might avoid using on your website.
You should avoid using frames on your website, if you want to get your site indexed faster. Frames make it difficult for users to bookmark a specific page on your website without using long, complicated scripts. They only confuse search engine robots and they might even abandon your site because of that.
Presenting important information in Flash movies or in images is something you do not want to do. If you present important words in Flash movies and images rather than textual form, the robots can only read text on your source code, so this dramatically affect your search engine ranking.
Do not use wrong HTML tags like “font, align, and margin” repeatedly in the code to style your pages. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead because they are more effective and efficient. Instead of using tags like that use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). By using Style Sheets you can eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages much lighter and faster to load.
Always use meta tags with the keywords relevant to each and every page of your site so that search engine robots know at first glance what that particular page is about and whether or not to index it.
Using meta tags, will make the search engine robot’s job easier so they will crawl and index your site more frequently.
